Mini sessions are short, relaxed, and designed to capture a handful of meaningful moments without taking up your entire day. Each session is 15 minutes long, with a five-minute buffer between families to allow time for a quick reset before the next session begins. Because the schedule moves quickly, arriving prepared and ready to begin helps everything feel calmer and allows us to make the most of every minute together.
Although 15 minutes may sound brief, it is plenty of time to capture a mix of connection, movement, cuddles, laughter, and a few gently guided portraits. A little preparation beforehand—such as choosing outfits early, making sure children are rested and fed, and arriving with enough time to park and settle in—can help your family feel more comfortable. The day moves quickly, so being ready at your scheduled start time ensures you receive the full session experience without cutting into your photography time.
The best outfits are the ones that still feel like you. Choose clothing that fits comfortably, allows everyone to move easily, and does not need constant adjusting.
Soft neutrals, earthy colours, muted tones, and simple patterns tend to photograph beautifully outdoors. Try to coordinate rather than match exactly. You might choose two or three colours and use them throughout everyone’s outfits.
Avoid large logos, neon colours, and extremely busy patterns, as they can pull attention away from your faces and connection. You can find more tips on what to wear here.
Mini sessions are scheduled closely together, so arriving late may reduce your photography time. Plan to arrive around 10 minutes early so you have time to park, gather your belongings, fix any last-minute hair issues, and help everyone settle before we begin. Please do not arrive extremely early and approach the shooting area while another family is being photographed. Giving the family before you some space helps protect their session time and keeps distractions to a minimum.
Let your children know that you are going to meet a photographer and spend a few minutes playing, walking, cuddling, and taking photos together. Try not to place too much pressure on them to smile or behave perfectly. Promising rewards for smiling can sometimes make children more anxious or resistant. A relaxed attitude usually leads to more natural expressions and genuine connection.
It is completely normal for children to need time to warm up. They do not need to look at the camera in every image. Some of the most meaningful photographs happen while they are exploring, holding your hand, laughing, or snuggling with you. You can learn more about how to prepare your children here
Depending on the location, we may walk along trails, sit in the grass, stand near water, or move between a few nearby spots. Choose footwear that works for the environment and clothing that allows you to sit, bend, and interact comfortably.
If anyone has mobility, sensory, developmental, or accessibility needs, please let me know before the session. I am happy to adjust the pace and approach whenever possible.
Within a week of your mini session, I will carefully select and edit the strongest images. You will receive an online gallery where you can view your photographs and choose the images included with your session.
A full-gallery upgrade is available, you will have the option to purchase the remaining edited images for $75.
